What actually keeps your hands warm

Not the leather, mostly. Leather does one important job — it stops the wind — but the warmth comes from the lining and from the thin pocket of air it holds around your hand. That is why a slim lined glove beats a thick unlined one on a cold morning.

It also explains something that catches people out: a winter glove should not be squeezed on. If the leather is pressed flat against your skin there is no air left to warm up, and your fingers get cold in a glove that otherwise fits beautifully.

All of these are cut and sewn by hand in our workshop in Târgu Mureș, Transylvania, in deerskin, lambskin and peccary. Black and brown are always here, and anything else we can make to order, lining and stitching included. Tell us how cold it gets where you live and we will suggest a lining — or if you want the warmest leather we work with, see peccary winter gloves.

Questions we get asked

Cashmere or rabbit fur?

Cashmere is warm without bulk and keeps enough feel that you can still drive in it. Rabbit fur is warmer, and it stays soft rather than matting down after one season. If your winters sit around freezing, cashmere is plenty. If they go well below, take the fur.

Should I size up for a lined glove?

No. We allow for the lining in the cut, so our lined gloves are the same size as our unlined ones — take the size you would take for a driving glove. The sizing chart has the measurements.

What happens if they get wet?

Rain and snow are fine as long as they dry slowly. Lay them flat at room temperature, away from radiators and hairdryers — direct heat is what dries leather out and makes it stiff, not the water.
