The pair we sell most of

Camel brown deerskin with a crochet back. It has outsold everything else we make for years, and we think the reason is that it does not look like it is trying. It goes with a jacket, it goes with a jumper, and the cotton back means you can wear it in June without your hands getting hot.

After that it tends to be cognac, then black with contrast stitching. Nobody needs three pairs of driving gloves, but plenty of people end up with them.

All of them are cut and sewn by hand in Târgu Mureș, Transylvania. Sizes, colours and stitching can all be made to order.

Questions we get asked

Which colour should I start with?

Cognac or camel if the gloves will be seen — they read as warmer and older than black, and they suit a brown shoe. Black if you wear a lot of dark colours or want them to disappear. Anything louder, like red stitching on black or yellow on navy, is best as a second pair.

Do they need breaking in?

Deerskin and lambskin want about a week of wear. Peccary does not — it is soft from the first minute, which is part of what you pay for. Either way, no soaking, no stretching over anything, just wear them.

I'm between two sizes.

Go down. A driving glove should be close, and the leather will give slightly where your hand bends. The sizing chart is in centimetres, measured around the knuckles with the hand half-bent.

What is the difference between the leathers?

Short version: deerskin lasts and forgives, lambskin looks formal, peccary is the softest and rarest. Longer version in our leather guide.
