Men's Winter Gloves That Still Work at the Wheel

Men's Winter Gloves That Still Work at the Wheel

How to choose men's winter gloves you can drive in: fit, lining, closure and leather.

Quick answer: A men's winter glove works at the wheel when it fits closely, has a slim lining and closes at the wrist. Deerskin with a cashmere lining is the most practical pair for daily driving; a strap closure keeps cold air out of the cuff, and a lining that adds warmth without bulk keeps your grip on the wheel. All our men's winter gloves are made in our workshop in Târgu Mureș in sizes 7.5–10, with hand-sewing available on request.

Can you drive in winter gloves?

Yes, if the glove is cut for it. The problem with most winter gloves is bulk: thick insulation stops the fingers from bending around the rim and the wheel feels distant. A leather glove with a thin cashmere lining and a close fit behaves much more like a driving glove, only warmer.

What should a winter driving glove fit like?

Snug across the palm and knuckles, with enough room at the fingertips that the lining is not compressed. Loose leather bunches under the fingers and slips on the rim. Measure your hand half-bent, not flat, and choose from 7.5 to 10 — our sizing chart shows how.

Which lining is best for driving: cashmere or rabbit fur?

Cashmere is the slimmer of the two, so it is the one we suggest for people who drive every day. Rabbit fur is warmer and a little fuller; it suits colder mornings and shorter drives. If you are unsure, start with cashmere — see also our comparison of cashmere, rabbit fur and shearling.

Why does a strap closure matter?

A strap at the wrist closes the gap between glove and coat sleeve, which is where cold air gets in when your arms are extended to the wheel. It also stops the glove sliding down when you steer. It is the detail on our black deerskin winter gloves with strap closure and cashmere lining.

Deerskin, lambskin or peccary for winter driving?

Deerskin, from Finland, is soft, stretches to the hand and wears well every day. Lambskin, imported from Italy, is the softest and finest of the three — our cashmere-lined lambskin gloves are the smoother, dressier choice. Peccary, from Peru, is a leather with a distinctive grain and a soft feel; the black peccary pair with cashmere lining is our hand-sewn winter option in that leather. What if I want the warmest possible pair?

Choose rabbit fur, as on the deerskin winter gloves with rabbit fur lining, and test the fit on a short drive before relying on them for a long one. Fuller linings need a size that leaves room for them, so if you are between sizes, ask us before ordering.

Can I have winter gloves made to fit my hand?

Yes. Send us your measurements and choose leather, colour and stitching — see our bespoke service. A bespoke pair takes up to five days to make and 8–12 days to arrive within the EU.

They are if you keep full control of the wheel. Choose a close fit and a slim lining, and take them off if they feel loose or slippery.

What size should I order?

Men's sizes run from 7.5 to 10. Measure your hand half-bent and use the sizing chart; if you are between sizes, contact us.

How long does a hand-sewn pair take?

A hand-sewn model can take up to eight hours per pair. Bespoke pairs take up to five days to make.

Can I return gloves that do not fit?
